I've been building
simple niche sites and getting them ranked on the first page of Google and today I'm going to show you exactly how I do it
and when I share this strategy you might say to me well damn jay that is so simple surely it can't be that easy but hear me out because I'm going to show you why it works so well as well as real examples of niche sites where I've successfully
implemented this tactic
so before we dive into the meat I first want to explain a little bit about exactly how ranking in google works and why we even want to do it in the first place because simply put I've been building and monetizing niche sites for years now and I've dabbled in a lot of different
ways of promoting my sites and driving visitors to them
but still to this day google traffic is hands down my favorite way to get traffic
and it's for a couple of different reasons first of all
it's incredibly profitable regardless of how you choose to monetize your site search engine traffic is hands down some of the most valuable traffic that you can get to your site
there really isn't a better time to put your site in front of someone right after they've searched for it shows that they really want information on that topic
right at that moment and the second reason is once you actually get your site to rank all of the visitors that you get
are free and sure it takes a bit longer to establish decent rankings than other traffic sources but once you get those rankings those visitors come in day in
a day out on autopilot I mean it doesn't get much better than that
so now that we've covered the why let's cover a little bit about how the Google algorithm
actually works so over the years the google algorithm has evolved quite a bit but back when i first started building websites it really just came down to two things the first google would send bots out all over the web
to look at all of the words on every website to figure out
just what those websites are about so simply put if a web page has soccer passing drills in the title in the description it has
an image about that then google can tell pretty quickly
that that page is about soccer passing drills we call these terms that we want to rank for
our keywords then they also take note of all of the links that are on every website that point to
another external website and every time they see one website linking to another website
they see this as a kind of vote and give that other website a little bit more credibility in the search engines these links from one website to another website are called
battling, in a nutshell, this basically just means that the more links that your website gets from
other websites the better you'll end up the ranking and back when I first started I wasn't the only one to discover that this was
essentially how the google algorithm worked many people
also had this aha moment and they'd go about setting up really crappy low-quality sites they get a bunch of low quality
links to their site and boom almost overnight
they'd be ranking absolute trash and making bank from it
however, although including keywords on your site and getting backlinks to your site
are still very much at the core of how SEO is done and how sites rank in google over the years they've also started to take
in other factors too they've taken stuff like engagement
how long people stay on your site whether they view multiple pages whether they instantly click the back button whether you get shared on social media a whole bunch of
other stuff too so how the hell are we meant to rank in Google today when there are now so many factors to focus on wellness rather than getting caught in the weeds and
focusing on every minute ranking factor here is my keep it simple stupid approach to ranking in google step one start with a niche that's actually
low in the competition now this isn't rocket science and this is something that I've said
many times in the past but there's a good reason for it
because starting out with a good obscure low competition niche will make everything else
so much easier when it comes to trying to rank in
google probably the most common mistake that i
see newbies making when trying to set up their first
a profitable niche site is going for ridiculously competitive
overly saturated niches like weight loss and forex tips and all kinds of stuff that just has hundreds of millions of results in the search engines however you'd be amazed at how much of a difference it can make
if you just simply start out with a low competition niche
it can make the difference between needing thousands of backlinks to your site
to get any rankings at all to only needing a handful of backlinks a good example of how much lower in competition
my sort of niches are than these examples is my numerology site where I'm ranking for
really obscure random stuff like 111 in numerology
and 1010 numerology destiny number five and all that kind of stuff another example is my affirmations website where I rank on the first page of google for stuff like
morning affirmations and love affirmations you can see a pattern here basically
all of my niche sites are built around obscure
random niches with lots of low hanging keywords
and step two is to build websites that actually
don't suck and create content that's actually
better than most of the stuff that's appearing on the first page of google for the term that you're trying to rank for so I'm talking about sites that actually look
like real authority sites that aren't full of broken English and spam and I'm talking about the kind of sites that other websites will actually link to naturally the type of sites that you don't have to trick or bribe anyone into linking out to you people just do it because your site is actually good because simply put you can put all of the time
in the world in trying to get backlinks to your site
trying to get rankings but if your site is just full of super-thin spammy articles then you're gonna have one hell of an
uphill battle in trying to rank anything now I'm not saying that you have to go and build the next Wikipedia or anything like that
I'm just saying you should put some time into making sure your site looks nice that your posts are well formatted that you've got images
and all that kind of stuff and if you think that building
a high-quality website is hard then you obviously haven't seen my how to build a website video
over at lazyartstowner.com in that video, I show you from start to finish
exactly how you can build your own authority niche website
all it really requires is setting up a hosting account
and then installing WordPress and if you don't have a hosting account then you can head over to postoffer.com to get yourself a Hostgator account which I've used to set up
countless profitable niche sites in the past and you can use the coupon lazy coupon at the checkout to get your first month of web hosting for just one cent or up to 60 off your total order
full disclosure when you use that link and coupon code
I'll get a commission which is how I justify putting out these videos for free
unmonetized on youtube but you also get the best discount that you're gonna find on a hosting account
anywhere and finally step three is to then just blast your content out from social media so i'm talking about Facebook
Pinterest Twitter Reddit all those kinds of sites
you should be posting all of your content out to essentially you just want to set up an account
on all of these sites try to get a few followers
and every time you add a new piece of content to your site
you want to post it out from your social profiles in the case of some of these sites
like Reddit and Pinterest you don't really even need followers to start getting initial traction
and if you've done your job right and picked a low competition niche and set up a website that isn't totally then often you don't really even need that much traction before you start to get some ranks
a few simple social shares can often be enough to get the ball
rolling and you'll see with all of my niche sites that I've done exactly this I have accounts on Facebook Pinterest twitter and
all that good stuff and honestly that's the basic
the essence of my overall strategy just pick low competition niches
set up high-quality websites and then post stuff out from social media and i know this might sound overly simple but
here's why this works so well first if your niche is legitimately low in competition and you've got good keywords
then you really won't need that many social shares
and links to start to get some initial rankings
then if your content and site is actually good
you'll get even more links from people who found you in the search engines which will then help to
further, cement your top rankings in the search engines but I know
some people are still going to think well surely you can't get enough links to rank in google from social media
alone and I know this because I even have received comments like this one which I got a while back
that said jay I think you should actually show us your link building strategy
I checked one of your sites and you have a lot of links
and it's true if you look at the links that my numerology secret site has or any of my other sites i have lots of links from other
websites many of them from high authority websites
that has nothing to do with social media you'll find that my numerology site has links from huge authority sites such as goodhousekeeping.com which gets over
50 million views a month and these guys are literally run by the same corporation that owns other sites like cosmopolitan and l and women's day but the thing is I didn't literally have to do anything to get this link I didn't ask them for this link I didn't send them an
email I didn't bribe them nothing they literally
linked to me on their own accord because they were writing an article about that topic
they probably searched for related information in google
boom found my website and decided to link out to it
because it was relevant and useful and that's the power of creating good websites and good content another example of this in action
is a link I scored from newsweek.com another
huge authority website that gets over 30 million visitors a month
and once again I didn't ask for this link this is a 100
natural link and this site has got a ton of other natural links just in the same way
that I didn't have to do anything for on top of that I've also got people linking me
on stuff like medium articles and forums, all of these are 100 natural 100 organic links my point is I didn't have to spend hours and hours building all of these links myself I instead focused on creating good content and then just pushing that out from social media
what's more, is many of the biggest players around use this exact same strategy
if you look at sites like a pinch of yum.com and thought thoughtcatalogue.com other people are just constantly naturally linking to their side they just focus on creating good content and then pushing that out from their social media accounts
and as a result, they don't just crush it in social media but they get an obscene amount of traffic from Google itself
in fact, many sites that are huge now and they get tons of traffic from google initially got their foot in the door on social media
you'd be amazed at how many sites I've seen start out initially posting their stuff
to Facebook or Pinterest and then getting a bit of traction there but then over time because they've also targeted keywords
and created good content they start to rank better and better in the search engines until their search engine traffic totally dwarfs the number of visitors
that they get from social media and sure these sites have such big presences and so many links that you might think well it's gonna be difficult to ever catch up to them but if you choose lower competition more obscure niches you really don't need as
many followers and as many backlinks as they do
to start getting some traffic and start making some money
furthermore, if you've watched any of my previous videos you know
just how easy it can be to actually get traction
on different social networks, I made a video in the past
about how you can drive thousands of visitors and get tons of backlinks from Reddit I've made a video
about how you can get millions of Facebook fans to your Facebook fan pages I've got tons of guides about just this on my blog
lazyardstoner.com and you might be surprised at just how easy it is to get traction
on the social networks, the long story short is if you constantly try to take shortcuts
and post out thin content then you're not gonna get anywhere compared to if you build a website that's high in quality

your first profitable niche site then you can head over to
